Nepalis harassed

21 September, 2014

Nepali security officials have drawn the attention of their Indian counterparts to alleged incidents of harassment and extortion of Nepali nationals returning home from India by Indian custom officials and security personnel in the name of ‘security checks’ at Sunauli border entry point.

Chief District Officer Bal Krishna Panthi, Superintendent of Police Rajendra Dhakal and Superintendent of Police of Armed Police Force Gunakhar Khanal, among others, called on top Indian authorities of Maharajganj district in India on Friday and raised the issue with them. CDO Panthi said that they raised the issue with Indian authorities informally, following complaints that Nepalis returning home from Sunauli border entry point are reportedly being harassed and extorted by Indian police and custom officials.
