Three workers killed, two injured in Sarlahi brick kiln wall collapse

Three workers were killed and two others seriously injured after a brick kiln wall collapsed in Haripur Municipality–5, Majurwa, in Sarlahi district on Friday evening.

The incident occurred at Krishna Brick Industry at around 6 pm when a wall of stacked bricks suddenly gave way while workers were extracting bricks, burying them under debris.

A police team from the Area Police Office, Haripur, led by Inspector Shiva Kattel, rushed to the site and carried out rescue operations following information from locals.

According to the District Police Office, Sarlahi, the injured were rescued and taken to the Provincial Hospital in Malangwa for treatment.

The deceased have been identified as 50-year-old Fitai Mansur of Godaita Municipality–7, 35-year-old Shambhu Raut of Ward No. 9, and 35-year-old Angad Kumar, a resident of Lakhimpur, India, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Saroj Rai.

The injured, 32-year-old Tulsi Mahato and 52-year-old Satyanarayan Mahato of Malangwa Municipality–7, are undergoing treatment, with Tulsi being treated at the Provincial Hospital and Satyanarayan at a local clinic.

Police said search and rescue operations continued through the night using an excavator amid fears that more workers could be trapped under the debris.

The brick kiln is operated by Birendra Chaudhary of Kaudena Bazaar.

Police said further investigation into the incident is underway.
