Laxmi Rajbanshi, 25, of Bhadrapur-7, Jhapa, who was studying in Fukuoka, Japan, has been killed.
Japanese police have detained five people as part of their investigation into the incident, according to the Embassy of Nepal in Tokyo.
Prakash Pathak, a lawmaker from Jhapa-3, said necessary steps have been initiated through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs following news of Rajbanshi’s death. He said efforts are underway to repatriate her body in coordination with the concerned authorities.
The Nepali Embassy said Japanese police are conducting a detailed investigation into the case.
Rajbanshi’s death has left her family and relatives in mourning. Pathak expressed condolences over her death on social media and urged the government to facilitate a thorough investigation, take action against those responsible and arrange for the repatriation of her body to Nepal.
