According to the data obtained from Department of Foreign Employment, nearly 65,000 labour permits were issued to Nepali workers going to Bahrain in the last two and a half decades, from 1993/94 through 2017/18. The number of labour permits issued for Bahrain increased from a scanty 91 in 1993/94 to over 6,000 in 2008/09, and declined thereafter to reach a low point of 3,146 in 2015/16.
