Hopes of rescuing people trapped inside the Trishuli-3A Hydropower Project tunnel in Rasuwa have risen after voices were reportedly heard from inside the tunnel, Rastriya Swatantra Party lawmaker Shri Ram Neupane said.
“Information has been received from the Army personnel involved in the rescue that voices of people have been heard from inside Trishuli-3A,” Neupane said in a social media post. “Hearing voices from inside the tunnel is a hopeful sign.”
Rescue teams from the Nepali Army and Armed Police Force have entered the tunnel and intensified their search for those trapped inside, according to Neupane.
Neupane, who had been involved in the operation as an engineer, said he remained at the site until Thursday evening. He said he now plans to travel on foot to Bidur, interacting with local residents along the way, before returning to Kathmandu by road.
He also praised the Nepali Army, Armed Police Force, technical teams and other rescuers involved in the operation, expressing hope that those trapped inside the tunnel would be rescued safely.
In his second post on Friday morning, he stated that the voices of more than one person had been confirmed.
“After the rescue team said, ‘Don’t panic, we are rescuing you,’ a response of ‘Okay’ was received from inside,” he wrote.
