Two Nepali nationals were killed after being struck by a train in Romania, according to international media reports.
The victims, aged 46 and 56, died at the scene. Their identities have not yet been officially confirmed.
The accident occurred at around 3:21 am local time on the Chimiei railway section in the city of Bacău, about 308 km northeast of the Romanian capital, Bucharest.
According to the Bacău Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (ISU Bacău), firefighters, a heavy rescue team, a mobile intensive care unit (SMURD) and an ambulance were dispatched to the scene after the incident was reported. Medical personnel confirmed both victims had died on the spot.
The Embassy of Nepal in Berlin, which is also concurrently accredited to Romania, said it is aware of the incident and has begun coordinating with local authorities.
Third Secretary Dipendra Prasad Saha said the embassy is working with Romanian authorities to establish the identities of the victims, facilitate legal procedures and provide necessary consular assistance.
As Nepal does not have an embassy or diplomatic mission in Romania, consular services for Nepali nationals there are handled by the embassy in Berlin.
Romanian police and railway authorities have launched a joint investigation into the incident. Authorities are investigating how the two men came onto the railway tracks and the circumstances surrounding the accident.
