Man arrested for swindling over Rs 12 million in UK job scam

KATHMANDU, July 3: A man has been arrested on charges of defrauding over Rs 12 million by falsely promising lucrative jobs in the United Kingdom.

The suspect, identified as Prabhas Rijal, 40, a resident of Lalitpur Metropolitan City-25, allegedly collected Rs 12.04 million from several individuals with the promise of arranging high-paying jobs in the UK. According to complaints filed by victims, Rijal had gone out of contact after taking the money.

A team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, Teku, arrested him on Wednesday from Ekantakuna, Lalitpur, the Kathmandu Valley Police Office said.

Police said Rijal took large sums of money claiming he could send individuals abroad for employment but later disappeared. He has been handed over to the Department of Foreign Employment in Tahachal, Kathmandu for further investigation and legal action.
