Kamlesh Paswan, the youngest son of Siyaram Paswan of Ward No. 2, Jaleshwar Municipality, Mahottari district, who had gone out of contact in Dubai, has returned home safely.
Kamlesh, who had been working in Dubai, had reportedly gone missing since March 10. Concerned family members had appealed to relevant authorities during the second week of late March to help trace his whereabouts.
Saying that his 30-year-old youngest son, who had been working in Dubai for the past three years had gone missing for last three months, Siyaram Paswan had sought help from the Mahottari District Administration Office, the municipality, organisations working in the foreign employment sector, and individuals involved in migrant workers’ welfare.
Following the appeal, Sunil Pandey of Manara Shiswa in the district coordinated through his contacts and the Nepali Embassy and informed the family that Kamlesh had been detained in a Dubai jail in connection with a drug-related case.
Efforts were then initiated to bring him back to Nepal.
According to Siyaram Paswan, Kamlesh returned home a few days ago following those efforts.
He thanked media persons, organisations working in foreign employment, Sunil Pandey for helping secure his release, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Nepali Embassy for ensuring his safe return.
Kamlesh said he had been working for the past three years at a company in Dubai and was arrested by local police while sitting at a cafe.
He stated that police arrested him along with three other Nepalis in connection with a drug-related case.
Speaking after returning home, Kamlesh said that with the support of the Nepali Embassy and Sunil Pandey, they were directly deported to Nepal.
He added that he was unable to collect any of his belongings and that the company still owed him two months’ salary. Kamlesh complained that after his arrest, the company stopped responding to his calls.
He appealed for support in securing his unpaid salary and said he no longer wished to seek foreign employment again. “I worked abroad for six years, but I had never faced such a situation,” he said.
“I will earn a living by working here, but I will not go abroad again for employment.”
