The government, with the support from a Chinese expert team, has expedited rescue operations of workers trapped in the tunnel of the Upper Trishuli 3 ‘B’ Hydropower Project in Rasuwa district.
The government in a bid of making its full efforts through a special mechanism to safely evacuate people trapped inside the tunnel due to floods has mobilized the Chinese expert team for this purpose. With permission of the Government of Nepal, the technically skilled 6-member Chinese expert team has reached the flood incident site.
The team, which reached the Trishuli area via a Chinese helicopter, will coordinate with experts from the Nepali Army to carry out the rescue work. The joint team will be examining the situation inside the tunnel and the possibility of rescue at the same time.
Provided the initial monitoring shows the feasibility of carrying out the rescue, additional Chinese experts are reported to reach the scene for quick and effective operations. These experts have been placed on standby positions in the Rasuwagadhi-Kerung border area in order to mobilize them immediately if necessary.
Based on the level of risk, the rescue operation inside the tunnel has been extremely challenging. The rescue team is taking all possible measures to safely evacuate the trapped workers.
