Seven Nepali women who were found working in Saudi Arabia illegally returned home on March 17 after spending six months at the shelter of the Nepali embassy.

Acting Nepali Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Anandaraj Sharma said the women were brought to Kuwait on a three-month visa by their employment agents and smuggled into Saudi.

There could be many Nepali women in Saudi who had entered via Kuwait route, Sharma said. “We’ve come across several cases where Nepali women were brought to Saudi from Kuwait.

Most of the women the embassy has rescued so far had faced some sorts of abuse from their employers.”

Sharma added the embassy cannot know how many undocumented Nepali women were working in Saudi at present. “Rescuing undocumented women is only possible after we have received complaints.”
