KATHMANDU, July 29: Nepal Police’s Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) has launched an operation against a Kathmandu-based travel agency for allegedly sending Nepali citizens to Spain using forged documents under the pretext of participating in a UN-linked conference.
The agency, Visit Abroad Tours and Travels, located in Maharajgunj, was raided a week ago, CIB sources confirmed. Several Nepalis had traveled to Seville, Spain, for a conference held from June 30 to July 3. However, after their failure to return home after the conference was over, concerns about human trafficking surfaced.
Former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had also attended the same conference. In response to the controversy, the Home Ministry formed an investigative team led by SSP Hobindra Bogati, who confirmed that while the operation was not a formal raid, suspicious documents and devices, including laptops, were taken into custody for examination.
