Dr Sagar Raj Sharma is a Professor of Development Studies and the founding Director at the Himalayan Centre for Asian Studies (HiCAS), Kathmandu University. He holds a PhD in Development Economics from Fukuoka University, Japan. He is the former Dean of the School of Arts at Kathmandu University and was a leading figure in developing its status during his tenure. His research interests and specialisation include migration, mobility, and wellbeing; sustainable agricultural practices; the ethics of sustainable development; heritage and sustainable development; land use and land reform; contested development; and foreign aid. He has authored several articles on migration issues and development.
