Three arrested for defrauding victims with promises of foreign employment

KATHMANDU, April 22: Police have arrested three individuals accused of defrauding people by promising foreign employment with lucrative salaries. According to the police, the suspects lured victims with job offers in various countries and collected large sums of money under false pretenses.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Urusha Chhetri, 29, of Mahalaxmi-10, Lalitpur; Kedar Dhungana, 27, of Bidur-5, Nuwakot; and Poshan Raj Gharti Chhetri, 40, of Tulsipur-6, Dang. All were residing in different areas of Kathmandu at the time of arrest.

Urusha allegedly took Rs 800,000 from a victim, promising a job in Canada. Kedar collected Rs 800,000 from two individuals claiming he could send them to the Maldives. Similarly, Poshan Raj took Rs 3.45 million from two individuals by promising employment in Japan, after which he became unreachable.

Acting on complaints filed by the victims, a team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office arrested Urusha from Kathmandu-31 on Saturday. Kedar was arrested from Kathmandu-32 on Friday, while Poshan Raj was apprehended from Tulsipur-6 on Wednesday.

Urusha and Kedar have been handed over to the Department of Foreign Employment, Tahachal, Kathmandu for further investigation, while Poshan Raj has been sent to the District Police Range, Kathmandu.

Police said further investigation into the case is ongoing.
