One arrested for defrauding Rs 950,000 with fake foreign employment promises

KATHMANDU, May 7: Police have arrested a person on charge of fraud for allegedly taking money from people with the promise of sending them to Romania for foreign employment.

Dipendra Mahat, 28, originally from Dhurkot Rural Municipality-3 in Gulmi and currently residing in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-15, has been arrested.

According to police, Mahat allegedly took a total of Rs 950,000 from six victims, promising them foreign employment opportunities in Romania and then went out of contact. Based on complaints filed by the victims, a team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office in Teku arrested Mahat from Kathmandu-15.

He has been handed over to the Department of Foreign Employment in Tahachal, Kathmandu, for further investigation and legal action.
