KATHMANDU, May 9: Police have arrested four individuals including Sujita Adhikari, 27, a resident of Gatthaghar, Madhyapur Thimi Municipality-3, Bhaktapur and originally from Baiteshwor Rural Municipality-8, Dolakha, for allegedly defrauding victims with promises of sending them abroad for employment on dependant visa.
According to the victim’s complaint, Adhikari claimed she had received a student visa for Canada and promised to take the victim along on a dependent visa. She allegedly took Rs 2 million from the victim and then remained out of contact.
Acting on the complaint, a team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, Teku, arrested Adhikari from Kathmandu Metropolitan City-12. Police have sent her to the Kathmandu Police Range for further investigation and legal action.
Meanwhile, police arrested three individuals for defrauding people by promising to send them abroad for employment. They arrested Arjun Surkheti, 32, originally from Tripura Sundari Rural Municipality-2, Dhading and currently living in Budhanilkantha Municipality-2; Rupesh Dhakal, 24, from Tarakeswar Municipality-5, Kathmandu and Motisara Khatri, 50, from Babai Rural Municipality-5, Dang.
Police said Arjun and Rupesh took Rs 3.5 million from two victims by promising to send them to Germany. They also said Motisara took Rs 500,000 from a victim with a false promise to send them to the United States and then cut off contact.
Based on the complaint, a police team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, Teku, arrested Arjun from Budhanilkantha Municipality-8 and Rupesh from Kathmandu Metropolitan City-12 on Wednesday. On Thursday, they arrested Motisara from Kathmandu Metropolitan City-13.
Police have sent them to the Department of Foreign Employment in Tahachal for further investigation and legal action.
