KATHMANDU, May 1: A Nepali student from Simraungadh, Bara, was found dead in her hostel room at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on Thursday evening.
According to the Embassy of Nepal in New Delhi, the student was discovered in her room on the fourth floor of the ‘Queens Castle-4’ (QC-4) hostel after she failed to respond during a routine evening check.
At around 7:30 PM, when repeated knocks went unanswered, hostel staff forcibly entered the room and found her unresponsive. The university’s International Relations Department has shared preliminary information with the Nepali Embassy, and an investigation into the incident is currently underway.
Indian police have cordoned off the area and are conducting inquiries. The cause of death has yet to be determined.
As most students have returned home for summer vacation, only a few remain on campus for ongoing first-year examinations. The deceased was also a first-year B.Tech student. Due to police restrictions at the scene, further details have not been made public.
This marks the second reported death of a Nepali student at KIIT in recent months. On February 16, Prakriti Lamsal from Rupandehi was also found dead in her hostel room at the university.
