Woman out of contact since 2 years in Saudi

Rohit Rai

"Sister help, help ….please save me." These were the last words Laxmi BK Rai had heard from her sister Lalita BK over phone on June 7.

The phone line was suddenly cut before Rai could make sure what her sister, who was calling from Saudi Arabia, wanted to say.

"Since then we have been trying to locate her whereabouts but to no avail," said Rai, a resident of Adharbhut block-15, Dharan. "We do not even know whether she is alive or dead."

According to Laxmi and BK´s mother Laganshova, Lalita had left for Suadi Arab in April 2010. Agent Mina Katuwal, resident of Makalubasti-11, Dharan, had promised that she would be provided Rs 10,000 per month for performing simple household duties.

"She left for Saudi Arabia around two years ago. She did not contact us even once after going there except for the day when she begged for help in that way," said Rai.

In the course of trying to locate Lalita´s whereabouts, Laganshova and Laxmi approached Paurakhi Nepal, an NGO, and the police.

They filed a case against the agent Katuwal and demanded that BK´s condition be identified. After both the bodies pressurized Katuwal to answer the complainers, she admitted to have taken Rs 18,000 from Lalita and assured that she was doing well and fine in the foreign land.

"But when we asked her to give us Lalita´s phone number, Kautwal never gave us right numbers," said Laxmi. "No body answered when we called on the phone she gave to us," she added.

Katuwal asked for 15 days to find out about Lalita and promised to even bring her back to Nepal, but she never again appeared before the police or at the NGO. "She either does not receive phone calls or just makes excuses," said Dilu Gajmer, coordinator of Dharan branch of Paurakhi Nepal.

Lalita was married to Chhavilal BK, a resident of Bhaisipankh VDC 2, Bhojpur 20 years ago. At present, Chhavilal is also in Qatar and his whereabouts, too, is known. With no information about both their mother and father, the couple´s five children live a pitiable life.
