US simplifies visa process for tourists and students

After receiving complaints from applicants who paid consultancies to organize documents for their visa interview at the US embassy in Kathmandu, which the consular officers don’t even need, the embassy, on Tuesday, announced changes in documents required for tourist and student visa processing.

Releasing a press statement, the embassy announced that from June 1 onward, applicants for tourist and student visas for the US will only need to take “few required documents” to their visa  interview.
The embassy is also said to have received reports of consultancies using the promise of a visa to obtain documents that could be used to steal an applicant’s identity.

The press statement reads: “In order to protect applicants from potential scams as well as save them money and time, applicants no longer need to bring bank statements, land titles, letters of invitation, or any similar documents. You will be asked to leave these types of documents with security.”
