US expands efforts to fight HUMAN trafficking

The US Agency for International Development (USAID), in partnership with the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare, has issued human trafficking awareness leaflets which will be disseminated in 14 earthquake-affected districts and other trafficking-prone areas as part of the US-funded Combating Trafficking Persons (CTIP) programme.

The CTIP leaflets were issued in response to the concerns over the increased vulnerability of children and women to trafficking, the US embassy said in a statement on Thursday.

The USAID has also added $450,000 in funding to expand the CTIP programme to six additional earthquake-affected districts.

US  Ambassador Peter W Bodde has said that his country counts on a close
collaboration with Nepal government to minimise human trafficking.
