UAE Embassy selects two agencies to verify Nepali migrant worker certificate

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Embassy in Nepal named two private travel agencies to verify and deliver ‘Good Conduct and Behaviour Certificate’, to migrant workers seeking employment in the Gulf country.

The UAE Embassy has selected City Express International Travel and Tours Pvt. Ltd and Yacca Travels & Tours Pvt. Ltd.

The certificate is mandatory for all potential migrant Nepali workers heading to the UAE. This decision makes the task of aspiring job seekers easy since many workers stand in a long queue for hours to verify the certificate at the UAE embassy.

Amending their labour policy, the UAE government had introduced the conduct and behaviour report, as part of the background check of expatriates, even before issuing them a work permit. This mandatory requirement for work visa came into effect from February 4.

Since then Nepali workers, seeking jobs in the UAE have struggled with the procedures. It added not only extra workload, but also financial burden on migrant workers.

The UAE embassy charges a fee of Rs. 4,300 to Nepali workers for verifying the police report. With this task handed to the private travel agencies, workers, already compelled to pay hefty amount for the report, will have to pay extra to verify their police report. The two travel agencies will certify the document after charging them extra Rs. 113 for each report.

As per the requirement, a Nepali worker has to apply at the Nepal Police Headquarters in Naxal, Kathmandu to obtain good conduct report.

Later, the worker takes the same police report to the Department of Consular Services in Tripureshwor for certification. The UAE Embassy in Kathmandu then does the final approval.

The verification process requires hours of standing in a long queue as the thousands of workers visit the UAE embassy every day. The queue starts building early morning.
