Two women held for trafficking

Police made public two women arrested for human trafficking in Rautahat, today. The women have been identified as Durgadevi Bohara, 42, of Alitar Municipality, Dadeldhura and Parbatidevi Sonar, 50, of Durga Bhagawati Rural Municipality of Rautahat.

Police arrested them from the premises of Gaur Customs Office with the help of a non-government organisation. According to District Police Office Rautahat spokesperson Nabin Karki, they were arrested while trying to traffic a 19-year-old girl from Surkhet to New Delhi. DSP Karki said police seized a passport with a Kuwaiti visa issued in the name of a girl from them. “After arresting the women along with the girl holding Kuwaiti visa, we informed the girl’s family, who disavowed any knowledge of her foreign trip,” said the police officer, adding, “As the case seemed to be a human trafficking bid, we are investigating into the case by keeping the women in custody.” Police said preparations are on to hand over the girl to her family.
