LAL PRASAD SHARMA

The District Court has released two women, who arrested on the charge of forcing girls into prostitution, on bail .

The court on Thursday ordered Anju Chaudhary, who runs Family Restaurant at Simalchaur, to pay Rs 100,000 and Laxmi Gurung, owner of Mustang Restaurant at New Bazaar, Rs 10,000 as bail .

Following complaints by victims, police arrested Chaudhary and Gurung on the charge of forcing two girls into flesh trade. Subsequently, they filed a case against Chaudhary and Gurung under human trafficking charge. Police, however, accused Aistrict Attorney Rajan Ghimire of releasing Chaudhary and Gurung by weakening the case. “Although we produced necessary evidence, including medical reports of the victims, the accused were released,” a police official said requesting anonymity.

Police said the trend of impunity has affected their campaign against prostitution and human trafficking. Ghimire, however, ruled out any wrongdoing.
