Travel agent held for human trafficking

The Central Investigation Bureau today raided the Tinkune-based office of Pari Travels and Tours Pvt Ltd and arrested its managing director Parbat Shrestha (33) on the charge of sending foreign job aspirants abroad illegally.

SSP Uttam Kumar Karkee, CIB’s acting director, said Shrestha of Panauti, Kavre, would send job aspirants abroad by promising them lucrative jobs. “Shrestha had been doing what he was not authorised to do. A travel agency is allowed only to perform ticketing jobs for tourists for their travel in and outside the country and acting in capacity of outsourcing agency is punishable by the law,” he said. The Nepal Police unit has seized documents as proof of Shrestha’s illegal act.

Among others, it has seized 147 passports, 107 record files of Talent International Management Services Pvt Ltd, Komal International Service Pvt Ltd, Rose Employment Service Pvt Ltd, BJ Overseas Pvt Ltd and Gulf Management International Service Pvt Ltd.

The seized documents also include certificates of orientation training issued in the name of 101 people, 35 visas of Kuwait and Dubai, 27 police clearance reports, nine labour stickers, nine cash receipts of manpower companies, life insurance forms of 25 people, two medical clearance reports, letter pads and stamp seals of manpower companies and a CPU for further investigation.

Investigators said they are trying to establish Shrestha’s nexus with manpower agencies. “Why would a travel agency collect passports, labour stickers, visas and other documents on behalf of manpower agencies? The Department of Foreign Employment is the only agency that is authorised to possess and issue labour stickers,” SSP Karkee said. He appealed to the DoFE to investigate the issue and initiate action.

The CIB has sent Shrestha to the DoFE for further investigation.
