Trafficked victim escapes from brothel

A 19-year-old woman, who was trafficked into India to become a sex worker a year ago, has somehow managed to escape and return home. The victim, a resident of Bharta-1 in Makwanpur, arrived home on Tuesday. After she fled the brothel in Lucknow, India, she was able to help police arrest the culprit who sold her for IRs 34,000.

The victim had filed a complaint with the police against the human traffickers and owners of the brothel. The victim’s aunt, a resident of Manahari-7, had handed her over her to one Shital Pariyar of Chitwan to employ her in manual work. Pariyar later sent the victim with Prem Mandal on the pretext of providing her work in India.

The victim said that Mandal took her to India, but instead sold her to a brothel owned by Binodi Nepali.  The victim managed to telephone her maternal uncle with the help of a ‘client’ and informed them that Mandal had sold her in Lucknow. After she escaped from the brothel on Friday, Indian police detained Mandal as per her complaint lodged by the victim. The victim is now taking shelter at Maiti Nepal office in Hetauda.
