TOPICS: Going abroad

NEELU SUBEDI
Why we intend to go abroad, is because we see others busy with their schedules. It may be shopping, late-night parties, or because of the photos of our friends in different eye-catching locations and their fascinating lifestyles.

These attract us most of the time and drive us to follow their way. We make up our minds and start searching for the best possible way to reach our destination. Internet surfing and Facebook chatting with friends drives us to the conclusion. We start roaming somewhere around the hub of consultancy: be they manpower or just an educational consultancy.

I decided to go abroad as I recently completed my Bachelor’s Degree. I took a firm decision and talked to my mom and dad. My parents gave me the approval. I went to one of the best educational consultancies in Kathmandu. I took the consultation services and appreciated their supportive and friendly behavior. As my first step was successful, I thought of explaining the same to my parents as well so that they could be financially ready.

Every step was new and challenging: the documentation, bank procedures, visa procedures. I prepared them to visit the concerned offices and with the help of my counsellor. I was excited yet scared as to what would happen if I didn’t get the visa, how would the visa consular access my documents, how would I face the reality. I was scared with many questions running through my mind. However, the other side of the coin would bring a huge smile.

The day of the visa result came. I had crossed my fingers from the morning, I was anxious with every ring on my mobile. Finally, the consultancy called me. I couldn’t believe that I had been granted the visa. Yes, I had got the visa, wahooooo I cried out, jumped and called my dad and thanked him. I would never have taken this step without his decision.

“I love you, dad.” I thanked my near and dear ones. My dream of landing in Down Under came true.
I hurriedly headed towards the consultancy and thanked my counsellor. Time passes soon. Now I have completed my master's. I have even called my parents on my graduation, they were happy to see me. I have achieved much in my life and I could feel my small dream has turned out to be true.

I have no regrets about my decision today. But somewhere sometimes I am not being able to satisfy myself, I miss my country, the culture, the tradition, the festivals. Dashain is coming. I really wanted to celebrate it with my family and friends. Reunion with the family is what Dashain is all about. Time to celebrate.
