Thai police nab Nepali on fraud charge

Police have arrested a Nepali man running an unauthorised employment agency in the Thai capital Bangkok.

According to the National News Bureau of Thailand (NNT), Bibek Bantawa, whose real name is Kishor Rai, has been arrested following complaints that his employment agency cheated customers out of a large sum of money, promising them jobs in the countries such as the US, Canada, and Macao. He is charged with human trafficking.

Most of the complaints have been made by fellow Nepalis to the Nepali embassy, the NNT reported quoting the authorities concerned. Among others, Pawan Phurong was swindled out of 540,000 baht that was supposed to be invested in a restaurant in Thailand. Initial investigation pointed out that the deceiver had met Phurong in China before and had convinced him to invest in Thailand. Not long after the money had been transferred, Bantawa cut off all communications, attempting to get away with Phurong’s money. Police are still hunting for six other accomplices.
