South Korean envoy Park calls on House Speaker Ghimire

South Korean Ambassador to Nepal Park Taeyoung called on Speaker of the House of Representative Devraj Ghimire on Wednesday.

During the meeting held at the Office of the Speaker in Singha Durbar, they exchanged their experiences and went over the topics of economic developments.

Mentioning the 50th anniversary of Nepal-Korea diplomatic relations, Ghimire stressed over the need to have more exchange of ideas between the two countries.

The Speaker also stated that Nepal has had an important role in Korea’s economic development, given the fact that 86,000 Nepalis are currently employed in the southern half of the Korean peninsula.

Ghimire also expressed his gratitude towards Samsung, a Korean electronic conglomerate, for establishing an assembly plant in Nepal while also requesting Korea to make further investments.

Acknowledging the flow of Korean tourists in Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautam Budhha, Ghimire requested Park to draw the Korean government’s attention to conduct direct flights from Korea to Nepal.

Newly appointed envoy Park stated that the contribution of Nepali workers in Korea was noteworthy and added that Nepalis were ‘polite, hardworking, and disciplined’.

The Korean envoy also shared that the East Asian nation was preparing to organise a special ceremony to celebrate the golden jubilee of the Korea-Nepal diplomatic relation.

Sharing that South Korea had formed a Nepal-Korea friendship committee in the Korean parliament, Park said the Korean side believed Nepal will make a similar move.

Furthermore, the Korean envoy acknowledged the engagement of Nepali workers, returning from Korea, in agriculture, and emphasised that the trend of spending money heavily on buying cars and houses must be discouraged.

Mentioning that Nepal was the second largest hub for human resources, Park said Korea was interested in making investments in the hydropower sector in Nepal.
