South Korea hikes EPS quota

South Korea has increased Employment Permit System (EPS) quota by 9,000 for the year 2012. South Korean Ministry of Employment and Labour has decided to hire a total of 57,000 migrant workers under EPS system from source countries including Nepal.
 
According to the South Korean ministry, small and medium scale industries is hiring 49,000 migrant workers in manufacturing, 4,500 in agriculture and livestock, 1,750 in fisheries, 1,600 in construction and 150 in service sector. Last year, South Korea has hired 48,000 migrant workers, and 40,000 of them in manufacturing sector. Likewise, the destination is planning to hire 11,000 additional workers, who have experience of working in South Korea. According to the ministry, the quota is allocated to foreign workers, who went back to their countries after the end of their employment period – either six years or four years and 10 months – and then want to re-enter Korea.
 
South Korea is a dream job destination to Nepali migrant workers. The destination is hiring more than 15,000 Nepalis in 2012 – about 11,000 in manufacturing and remaining in agriculture and fisheries. Quotas for Nepali migrant workers have increased by double to 15,298 from 7,100, following popularity of Nepali workers. Nepal has received best labour sending country certificate from South Korea.
