Six minors rescued from Jogbani

A police team from Rani, Biratnagar, rescued six minors from being trafficked to New Delhi from Jogbani railway station of India yesterday evening.

A Nepal police team with the coordination of Andra India, an Indian organisation based in Jogbani, rescued the kids hailing from Sunsari’s Aburabani VDC. The kids from Rishidev community were being taken to Delhi by a child smuggler Pilar Rishidev of Duhabi, Sunsari, to employ them there as farm workers.

The rescued kids are identified as 12-year-olds Chandan Kumar and Jiten Rishidev, 14-year-olds Binod, Dilip and Umesh and 10-year-old Shrawan. The children, however, said that they had left their homes with the consent of their parents after ‘the agent promised them payment of INR 250 per day’. The rescued kids are now kept at the Children Helpline Biratnagar. According to the helpline Chief Bishnu Poudel, the kids will be handed over to their parents soon. “It is a great challenge to bring child smuggling happening with parents’ consent under the law,” said Poudel.
