According to EPS Nepal, about 4,036 Nepali workers have reached Seoul since January 2012.EPS Nepal under the Department of Foreign Employment along with the Human Resource Department of South Korea selected around 15,000 Nepali youths last August to hire them in the next two years.More than 51,000 Nepalis appeared for the Test of Proficiency in Korean — the gateway to a lucrative job in the destination — last year.“South Korea has prioritised Nepali workers,” said chief of EPS Nepal office Mahesh Acharya. “About 329 Nepalis will join South Korean jobs in Jestha (by June 14),” he added.

 

According to EPS Nepal, about 13,626 Nepalis have joined South Korean jobs under EPS since the process began in 2008.The EPS process started in August 2008 following an agreement between the Nepali and South Korean governments in 2007.About 32,000 Nepalis had applied for jobs in the first year.Meanwhile, EPS has honoured Nepal as ‘the most supportive worker sending country’ among 15 countries. Human Resource Department ofSouth Korea has given a $ 1,000 honorium and a letter of appreciation to EPS Nepal office. South Korea has been hiring EPS workers from Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam, Cambodia, Mongolia, China, Uzbekistan and other countries too.EPS workers earn about $ 1,000 which is significantly higher than earnings in other popular destinations like Malaysia and Gulf countries, where Nepali workers earn about $ 250.South Korea is planning to hire about 7,000 EPS job aspirants from the 2011 roster and the remaining the following year. About 15,200 workers have been listed in the job roster.
