The government is to renew labour permits for migrant workers from the province itself starting this Sunday. Labour permits were being renewed only from the capital so far.

The new provision has been made with the objective of facilitating services related to foreign employment. Accordingly, the Labour and Employment Office in Province 2 and Province 5 will begin providing labour permit and other related services from tomorrow, according to the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security.

The offices will begin operation by renewing labour permits and monitoring training and orientation provided by the licenced institutions. In addition, they will be providing information and handling grievances related to foreign employment, according to the Ministry spokesperson Narayan Regmi.

Similar services will also begin from the remaining five provinces soon as preparations for the same are in final stage. As a result, the compulsion for service recipients to travel to Kathmandu for labour permit will come to an end.
