Qatar under ITUC scanner

International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) — a global umbrella of trade unions — has asked UN to inquiry about the migrant workers situation in the Qatari government construction projects. It has also submitted a formal complaint to ILO. The complaint highlights the link between the increasing number of workplace fatalities and Qatari government’s refusal to allow migrant workers to form unions.

Some 500,000 Nepali migrants have been working in Qatar and the number is increasing due to Qatar’s World Cup Football 2022 preparations. Most of the Nepali migrants are working in the construction sector.
