Over 6,000 aspirants re-register for Korea jobs

Of the total 6,935 Nepalis youths whose names were delisted from South Korean government´s job roster, 6,029 re-registered their applications to reclaim the Korean jobs under the Employment Permit System (EPS), which allows Korean employers to hire foreign workers.

“Though Human Resource Department (HRD) of Korea notified 6,935 aspirants to re-register their applications to claim the EPS jobs, only 6,029 approached us with their applications to get themselves re-registered in the job roster,” Gyan Nath Dhakal, acting chief of EPS-Nepal office, told Republica on Wednesday.

EPS-Nepal Office had launched 11-day re-registration program seeking re-applications from those who were removed from the job roster of Korea´s HRD, which has been arranging labor contracts for job-seekers with Korean employers.

As per the existing provision, applicants have to register reapplications with fresh health reports prepared by five health institutions designated by the government.

With the completion of the first phase of re-registration, EPS-Nepal office has begun the process of re-listing the candidates in the job roster.

“We are making initial job-roster by including names of those who reapplied during last 11 days of our re-registration process. Then the list will be sent to HRD that will verify the authenticity of the documents submitted by the applicants before making a final list of aspirants for job roster,” said Dhakal.

As the one-year validity of health certificates expired, the Korean government had recently sent a list of around 6,935 candidates randomly from among around 9,000 candidates who failed to sign job contracts in time under EPS.

As per the existing provision, names of candidates will be delisted from the roster once their medical reports´ validity expires. Those, who want to qualify for EPS jobs again have to pass the medical test and refill the job application at EPS Nepal Office within the specified deadline.

A total of 15,678 youths were registered in the job roster after qualifying through the Test of Proficiency in Korea (TOPIK) -- Korean language test -- and heath check up to try their hands on Korean jobs in 2011.

However, only 6,039 of them have actually signed labor contracts.“We will re-open the re-registration soon for those who have failed to reapply even if they have been removed from the roster,” said Dhakal.

EPS-Nepal source said HRD Korea will start offering labor contracts by January 2013 randomly selecting the candidates from among those who have been re-listed from fresh re-registration process.
