Officials warn EPS applicants to be wary of swindlers

The form submission process under the 7th Employment Permit System (EPS) has been completed and the Test Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) language for aspirant has been scheduled for June 18 and 19.

According to officials and people in the sector, this is the time when fraudsters may approach applicants assuring them jobs in Korea. Therefore, those who are appearing in Employment Permit System (EPS) test aspiring for employment in South Korea need to be careful.

Dishonest manpower agents may try to swindle money from applicants promising success in TOPIK test, a source at Department of Foreign Employment said.

There were many reports of fraud in the first few batches of the EPS, said Rama Bhattarai, director at Department of Foreign Employment, adding that majority of applicants are now aware of fraudulent activities associated with jobs in Korea.

"The government has frequently requested job aspirants not to trust anyone who assures jobs in South Korea in return for money," she informed, adding that the government is committed to take action against those involved in illegal cheating aspirants.

A total of 60,678 aspirant migrant workers have submitted application forms this year compared to last year's 51,499.

The candidates who pass the Korean exam will get jobs in manufacturing and agricultural sectors for the year 2017. The candidates who pass TOPIK will be registered in the roaster of workers for South Korea and later will be short listed according to employer's demand.

The EPS center has informed that the Korean government plans to take some 3,100 candidates this year.

Nepal entered the EPS in 2005. Since then, South Korea has become a lucrative destination for Nepali migrant workers. After reports of fraud by agencies, the government took the matters in its own hands in 2007. In July, 2007 Nepal and Korea signed a MoU under the Employment Permit System (EPS) that paved the way for Nepali workers to go to South Korea for work.
