NRNA to combat trafficking

Devendra Bhattarai

The Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) is all set to take the initiative to control human trafficking in South African countries and provide relevant information about foreign employment opportunities through a dedicated information network.

The representatives of NRNA from Uganda, Zambia, Tanzania, Nigeria, Kenya, among others organized a seminar on ‘Human Trafficking Network’ in Nairobi on Sunday and decided to initiate a campaign against trafficking through a regional platform.

The seminar was organised under the joint initiation of Nepali Embassy in South Africa, Nepali Honuorary Consulate Office and NRNA in Kenya.

Addressing the seminar, Arun Prasad Dhital, Nepali ambassador to South Africa, said the fact that human traffickers had been using South Africa as a safe transit was a matter of concern to all.

He said that it has become need of the hour to put up a united front against the trafficking racketeers as the trend of leaving Nepali migrant workers to fend for themselves in African countries was on the rise.

Shesh Ghale, chairperson of the international coordination committee of the NRNA, declared that he would donate Rs 200,000 for the establishment of a rescue fund for those duped and stranded in the African countries by dishonest agents.

Barat Rijal, member of the international coordination committee of NRNA, Tanzania, and Kul Bahadur Karki, former chairperson of the NRNA, also declared to donate Rs 50,000 each for the fund.
