Nepalis in Malaysia ‘safe’

Nepali Embassy in Malaysia said no Nepali workers were killed or gone missing in the incident of a hostel in the Pasir Gudang section of the Johor Bahru city in Malaysia on Sunday evening.

In a statement on Friday, the embassy said all the 120 Nepali workers in hostels at Pasir Gudang area were safe. 

The embassy had deployed a team to investigate into the case after rumours of murder of Nepal workers spread through social media in the incident when a gang of 150 locals had attacked in the hostel. The team deployed in the field has compiled the details of Nepali migrant workers staying in the hostels. The team has visited various companies to collect the details of the workers. 

The statement said the Nepali embassy has been providing medical support to the injured and started work for safe release of those held in custody in connection with the incident.  Two workers were injured and nine were arrested in the incident.
