Nepali worker's body awaits repatriation

The body of a Nepali migrant worker who died in Saudi Arabia two months ago has been awaiting repatriation.

Jiban Rai (28) of Khotang, who died in his sleep on May 29, is learnt to have been illegally working for a company different from the one that brought him from Nepal.

The Saudi government has sought 10,000 Qatar riyal from the Jiban’s family through the Foreign Employment Promotion Board of the Saudi Arabia-based Nepali Embassy.

“As we could not send the necessary funds, Jiban’s body has been in Saudi Arabia for more than two months,” lamented Jiban’s nephew Gopal.

As the family have failed to pay the amount necessary for repatriating the body, the board on its own has now started taking initiative to bring the body to Nepal.
