Nepali woman stranded in Saudi Arabia rescued

A Nepali woman who was left stranded by her employer in Saudi Arabia four months ago has been rescued and brought to Nepal.

Tankamaya Angbo, who had reached Saudi Arabia through Kuwait some ten years ago for employment, was illegally employed as a domestic worker by various employers for a long time and was left stranded about four months ago.

The current employer had left Angbo outside the gate of the Consulate General of Nepal in Jeddah some four months ago following which the consulate kept her in a shelter while processing her safe return to Nepal.

A statement issued by the Consulate General of Nepal stated that Angbo has been sent to Nepal on a flight on Wednesday with the help of the Non-Resident Nepali Association.

As per the statement, sending Angbo back to Nepal became difficult as there were no legal documents that showed her legal status in the country.

“Angbo was granted a visa to leave the country after multiple meetings with the Foreign Ministry officials of Saudi Arabia,” reads the statement. “She has been safely sent to Nepal on a flight on Wednesday with the help of the Non-Resident Nepali Association.”
