A Nepali man has been sentenced to four months in prison for thrashing a fellow Nepali worker in Malaysia.

According to The Star, Malaysian paper, the Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday handed down a four-month jail to the man, who was later identified as Ram Gopal Murau, for beating a Nepali security guard with a truncheon in a parking area.

Last month, a 44-second video showing Murau ruthlessly beating Eslam Husen in the parking lot of a shopping complex in Taman Melati, had gone viral.

Murau has been charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term up to 10 years or a fine or both if found guilty, according to the paper.

Following the video, timestamped July 7, the Nepal Embassy in Kuala Lumpur had filed a complaint at the local authority demanding action against the culprit. Initially, it was believed that the person beating was either a local Malaysian or a worker from any other country.

Investigation, however, had found that both were Nepali nationals.

The victim Husen is from Nawalparasi whereas the offender Murau from Kapilvastu, according to the Nepal embassy, which also said both were illegally working in the country.

After coming in touch with the Nepal embassy, both had confirmed themselves in the viral video. Murau had surrendered to the local police.

Murau jail sentence would be counted from August 3—the day when he had turned himself in to the police.
