Nepali damsel in distress in Saudi

The kin of a Nepali woman, who was illegally flown to Saudi Arabia, have called on the government to help rescue her.

According to family sources, they last heard from Kamala Thapa from Saudi Arabia five years ago, and have alleged a manpower agent for leaving her stranded in a foreign land.

Budhha Tamang of Urlabari, Morang, who identified himself as an agent of Kathmandu-based Shristhi Manpower Company, had sent Thapa to Saudi through Mumbai, promising her a job in Kuwait.

“We found that Tamang had cheated us only after my daughter called from Saudi Arab saying she was stranded there,” said Thapa’s mother Tulasha.

Kamala’s kin today handed over Tamang to Area Police Office, Itahari. Tamang claimed that Thapa was safe and could return from Saudi if the family agrees to spend Rs 100,000.

Meanwhile, Tamang admitted that he has been sending Nepali wo-men to Arabian countries illegally for the past seven years. “I send Nepali wo-men to the Gulf with the help from brothers and my wife who live in Mumbai,” he confessed.
