The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Saturday that Nepalis living in Bangalore in India were safe and that there was no danger of sectarian riot as reported by some section of media of late. “We have been informed that Nepalis have not been targeted there,“ MoFA Spokesman Arjun Bahadur Thapa told THT. Thapa said the Embassy of Nepal in New Delhi was constantly in touch with local authorities in New Delhi and Bangalore and taking stock of security situation there and whether there was any threat to Nepalis living there. Thapa said the Nepali mission has requested India's Ministry of External Affairs to arrange adequate security measures for the Nepali community living there in view of possible risk for the fact that their faces resemble Nepali-speaking community of Assam, who are said to have been the target of the recent Hindu-Muslim riot that broke out in Assam last month. The southern Indian city for the last couple of days has witnessed mass flight of students and workers back to their homes after widespread rumors that Muslims, a large minority in India, were seeking revenge for Assam violence recently.
