Mugu youths leaving in droves to India for jobs

Youths of Mugu have started going to Indian cities in search of jobs even as the election atmosphere is gradually heating up in the district.

The flow of passengers in Gamgadi Newroad Buspark has surged, with the majority of youths from Rugha, Tharp, Lum, Rowa, Bihi, Charap, Gadipani, Jhakot and Tallekh areas started leaving for India to rejoin their jobs.

Bakilal Nepali, a local man of Rugha Village, said that the leaders would not look after them after they win elections. “Why should we wait to cast our votes?” asked Nepali.

Ankha Bahadur Budha of Tallekh Village predicts a thin voter turnout in the upcoming federal and provincial elections as the youths started returning to their jobs in droves. “Youths have ho hope from leaders and their parties,” said Budha.

The number of youths leaving for India has increased after many failed in their bid to join as the temporary police personnel for the elections. Locals said the trend would continue until November.

A recent study showed that 15 percent of the district’s youths took up jobs in the Gulf countries, while more than 75 percent of youths went to India.
