Minister: Female Migrants Unsafe

Minister for Labour and Employment Deepak Bohara has ruled out the possibility of sending women for foreign jobs in the present context.

Speaking at an interaction on the guidelines relating to sending women as domestic help abroad, Bohara said he would not allow sending women workers for foreign employment until their security was guaranteed.
“Nepali women being stranded in foreign land, subjected to abuses, and getting unpaid for months make the news headlines. So, now onwards women would not be allowed to go for foreign employment until clear criteria was made regarding their safety, remuneration and other facilities in the destination countries,” he said.

Labour Secretary Bishnu Lamsal noted that many incidents of human trafficking were taking place under the guise of foreign employment. He emphasised the need of addressing the issue.
Metropolitan Crime Division Chief Senior Superintendent of Police Sarbendra Khanal said women workers who are facing troubles overseas should be rescued first.
