The government has decided to provide financial support to the families of migrant workers if those in foreign employment or their family members have chronic ailments like cancer, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s or kidney and heart diseases.  

The Foreign Employment Promotion Board has decided to provide a maximum of Rs50,000 each to those suffering from such chronic diseases. Raghuraj Kafle, executive director of the Foreign Employment Promotion Board, said his office was planning to expand such treatment support to people affected from other major 
diseases.

“Those who are already receiving the treatment support from the state also will also be entitled to the facility,” he said. Spouse, children and parents, and father-in-law and mother-in-law (in case of a female worker) and dependants of a worker concerned shall be entitled to the facility. 

The Foreign Employment Promotion Board has approved the standard relating to the medical treatment to families of workers in foreign employment-2073 BS to implement the provisions included in the Foreign Employment Act-2007 and Foreign Employment Rule-2008.
