Migrant workers stranded in Malaysia brought home

Six Nepali migrant workers stranded in Malaysia and rescued with the support of the diplomatic channels were brought to Nepal on Wednesday.
 
The rescue efforts were initiated after the Metropolitan Police Crime Division, Teku, was alerted about their plights on the division's hotline number 1177, set up specifically for rescuing people in difficult situation.
The six workers had reached Malaysia about 10 months ago under a work visa after they were hired by a company named Height Mark.
 
Although they were hired to work as cleaners, the agents deployed them as laborers at a rubber company.
 
After facing hardship in the company and being arrested by the immigration department of Malaysia, the six managed to call the police hotline seeking help, SP Sahakul Bahadur Thapa, Division Spokesperson said.
 
According to the division, the rescued Nepali migrant workers are Nil Bahadur Rai, 24, of Chandranigahapur-7, Rautahat; Buddhibir Tamang, 26 of Rake-1, Paanchthar; Yam Bahadur Oli, 23, of Chaudharypur-8, Bardiya; Anup Dahal, 25, Barnali-2, Okhaldhunga; Binod Tamang, 25, of Madhyapur Thimi-5, Bhaktapur; and Narsang Tamang, 23, of Tarebhir-6, Dolakha district.
 
We received calls from the victims about a month ago and immediately requested the respective authorities to use diplomatic channels to rescue the workers, he said adding.
 
Victims or any informers can dial 1177 and give information or inputs that support the law enforcement agencies to make the arrest of perpetrators and rescue of the victims.
 
The Metropolitan Police Crime Division, Teku had instituted the helpline to thwart human trafficking taking place under the guise of foreign employment.
 
The division has already rescued over hundred migrant workers so far and arrested some manpower company operators and agents for their involvement in related crimes.
