The Malaysian government has offered on-the-job training courses to Nepali students thorough its SkillsMalaysia International Technical Education and Vocational Training Programme (INVITE).

INVITE is especially designed for international students with the objective of attracting foreign students to skills training programmes in Malaysia to propel the country towards vision 2020 - High Income Economy, said Fadli Adilah, counsellor cum Charge d’ affaires, Embassy of Malaysia in Nepal, at a press meet in the Capital today.

The programme aims to produce graduates with comprehensive skills and knowledge in technical and vocational disciplines to become skilled employees or entrepreneurs, he said.

The Department of Skills Development (DSD) of the Ministry of Human Resources, Malaysia, is responsible for coordinating the implementation of the programme.

Berjaya University College of Hospitality (BUCH) today called on Nepali students to enroll in the training courses in their institution for a better future.

Rosan Rathi, chief, Nepal Chapter, BUCH, one of the 49 institutions providing government launched technical and vocational training to students, said INVITE was a very good opportunity for Nepali students.

SkillsMalaysia INVITE programmes at Berjaya Higher Education are offered in 3 different levels - level 1, 2 and 3 with duration of 12 months, 18 months and 24 months respectively.

“The curriculum is divided into 20 to 25 per cent classroom activities and 75 to 80 per cent internships in Berjaya and its associated hotels, resorts and clubs with $260 per month during internship,” he said.

He informed that the support of the Berjaya Group of Companies played an integral part in industry placements with their diverse hotels, resorts and clubs providing a platform for students to gain international placement and exposure, thereby enhancing their skills and knowledge in a global environment.

“Since it’s a government subsidised programme, a 24-month-long course would cost only around Rs 500,000 for a Nepali student,” he said adding, “They are running classes in four subjects Culinary Art, House Keeping, Food and Beverage and Front Office.”According to him, interested students can get loan from Sagarmatha Merchant Bank, which should be paid in two installments.

Any Nepali student who has passed School Leaving Certificate (SLC) Exam and scored at least 5 in IELTS and is aged between 18 and 35 is eligible for the course at BUCH.

Around 1,500 international students from 30 countries are currently studying at BUCH.
