Mahara’s concern over Nepalis in Qatar

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Krishna Bahadur Mahara has expressed concern over the security of Nepali migrant workers in Qatar.

In a meeting with Ambassador Ahmad Jasim Mohammed Ali Al Hamar, who paid a courtesy call on him on Friday, Mahara discussed the condition of Nepali workers in Qatar following the blockade of the tiny country by some Gulf countries.

Mahara told the visiting Qatari ambassador that he has been taking daily updates on the situation of Nepalis working in Qatar while urging the envoy to provide security to the Nepalis working in the emirate, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

The ministry claimed that Nepal stands for peaceful and diplomatic resolution of the crisis that surfaced in the Gulf through peaceful means.

Mahara also asked Qatar to care for the Nepalis working in various companies run by Qatari entrepreneurs across the Gulf. In response, Ambassador Hamar pledged security of the Nepalis working in Qatar and the companies operated by Qatari businessmen in other parts of the Gulf. He added that Nepalis in Qatar were not facing any difficulties. The Qatari envoy said that relations between Nepal and Qatar would remain cordial in future.

Hamar also paid a courtesy call on Home Minister Janardan Sharma on Friday. According to the Home Ministry, bilateral issues were discussed in the meeting. Sharma remarked that Nepalis have contributed a lot to the prosperity of Qatar.
