Labour attaché urged to protect the rights of Nepali migrant workers

Kathmandu, Sept 15: Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security Sher Bahadur Kunwar has instructed the labor attaché working in various Nepali embassies to pay attention to the protection of the rights of Nepali workers in foreign land.

In a virtual discussion held on Thursday with labor counselors and attaché assigned to different nine labor destination countries, Minister Kunwar instructed them to pay attention to the rescue of workers who are facing trouble and the resolution of disputes between Nepali workers and their employers.

He also reminded them to carry out their role as prescribed by the Foreign Employment Act, 2064.

On the occasion, labor counselors and attaché working in different countries shared about labor problems, wage payment situation, fraud committed by recruitment agencies, management of prisons and the dead, and assistance provided by the embassy to stranded citizens.

Referring to Nepalis landing in a trouble for going abroad to work on a 'visit visa' and without obtaining a work permit, they also requested the government to look into and address the matter. (RSS)
