Kin of migrant in Saudi appeals for his rescue

Family members of a Nepali migrant worker in Saudi Arabia have requested the government to rescue him from his employer, who has reportedly denied him salary for the past nine months and barring him from leaving the country.
Tribeni Mallaha, 32, of Gulariya, Bardiya, told his family over a phone that his employer of two years has not paid him in nine months and has turned down his request to be allowed to return home.
Tribeni’s family has appealed to the government to take steps to rescue him.
“He had a plan of returning home after working in Saudi for two years, but now he has been barred from leaving the country. All his documents have been confiscated by the company that arranged him the job there,” Tribeni’s wife Rekha Kumari said.
Rekha has registered an application with the People Forum for Human Rights (PFHR) in Nepalgunj, appealing for her husband’s rescue.
She said Tribeni calls home almost daily these days, asking if the government is doing anything to ensure his safe return.
Tribeni had gone to Saudi through Apple Overseas Pvt Ltd. He was hired to work for Masud Seed Est for General Contracting.
A PFHR representative said they were working with the government to bring Tribeni back home safely.
“We are coordinating with the concerned government agency to rescue him. We are also trying to make sure that his unpaid salary is returned with compensations,” said Advocate Som Luitel.
