Jail in Malaysia for killing fellow Nepali

RAM CHANDRA GIRI

The Shah Alam-based High Court slapped an 18-year sentence on a Nepali migrant worker on Thursday, convicting of murdering a compatriot.

Local newspapers reported that 25-year-old Bishnu Bahadur Karki, a cargo helper in a freight forwarding company, was sentenced as he had thrashed Kiran Bahadur Shrestha, 37, to death.

It is revealed that Karki beat the victim to death in a makeshift container at the company in Klang on June 10. Following a dispute, the accused was said to have vented his anger by beating Shrestha with an iron rod five to six times in his head. He then wrapped the body in a blanket and threw it into a drain behind a container as he collapsed.

The body was found the next day by a passer-by who informed the police. The local authority arrested Karki on June 11 in connection with the incident. The addresses of Karki and Shrestha in Nepal remain unknown.
